The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has received official approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to reintroduce key management degree programmes, including Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, and Economics.

The approval, which was granted on October 17, 2025, follows a successful Resource Assessment Visit by the NUC to evaluate the university’s readiness to resume the programmes. The news was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday, October 20, 2025, by Mr. Olasunkanmi Olajide, the Acting Head of Public Relations at FUNAAB.

According to the NUC’s letter, signed by Abubakar M. Girei, Acting Director of Academic Planning, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, the Commission found the institution adequately prepared to deliver the programmes in line with national standards.

The reintroduced courses mark a return to academic diversification for FUNAAB, which had previously offered management programmes until 2018, when the then Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, directed specialised universities to focus strictly on their core mandates.

Olajide added that alongside the reinstated management courses, the university also secured approval for a new M.Sc. programme in Agroecology, further strengthening its postgraduate offerings.

The development, according to the institution, represents a major milestone in its academic growth, signaling renewed commitment to producing well-rounded graduates equipped to contribute to Nigeria’s agricultural and financial sectors.
