Plans have been announced for Greenpower Park, a landmark clean energy campus set to position Britain at the forefront of electrification.
Located in Coventry, the development will be anchored by the West Midlands Gigafactory, the only site in the UK with approval for large-scale battery production. The facility will deliver up to 60GWh of capacity each year, supplying enough power for around 600,000 electric vehicles.
The wider Greenpower Park will combine battery research, manufacturing, testing, recycling, and logistics, creating a complete ecosystem for electrified technologies. Backed by government, industry, and academia, the project is projected to attract £2.5 billion in investment and generate 6,000 high-skilled jobs.
Regional universities and training providers are already aligned with the initiative, supported by Coventry’s strong industrial base and a workforce pipeline of more than 210,000 students in relevant fields.
“This is more than a manufacturing project, it is a statement of intent,” said Cllr Jim O’Boyle, Coventry City Council’s Cabinet Member for Jobs, Regeneration and Climate Change. “Greenpower Park places the UK at the center of the green industrial revolution and demonstrates our readiness to lead in innovation, sustainability, and economic growth.”
The scheme is a joint venture between Coventry City Council and Coventry Airport Ltd, with additional support from the West Midlands Combined Authority, Warwickshire County Council, Rugby Council, Coventry University, and the Manufacturing Technology Centre.
